EXCLUSIVE: Interview With The Indigo Project
The Indigo Project are a five-piece indie-pop-punk band from Leeds and they are gearing up for the release of their new single ‘Taste It’ which drops this Friday.
Here we speak exclusively to the boys from The Indigo Project about their latest track, upcoming tour, future plans and lots more.
What is the inspiration behind your new single ‘Taste It’?
The single is about wanting something desperately that is just out of reach, so close you can “taste it”. The thing that you want is also going to be really bad for you, but you just don’t care about the harm it’ll cause because you want it so much. It’s a song about addiction.
You have a few shows coming up this summer, what can fans expect from your concerts?
We’d like to think fans can expect a run of mental shows. Mosh pits and crowd surfing have become a bit of a thing at the gigs especially during ‘Taste It’, although the security guards aren’t that happy about it!
What was it like playing at the Reading and Leeds festival’s a while back?
Reading and Leeds was a truly incredible experience! We couldn’t have asked for better crowds at either festival. Leeds was definitely a special one for us, since it was our home town crowd – it was great to have the audience screaming back at us! Plus we’ve been going as fans to Leeds for so many years so it felt amazing actually being on stage. We were really surprised by the response at Reading, they seemed to really like us despite the fact we’d never played there before.
What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?
There’s definitely been a few highlights in our musical career so far, its been a hell of a ride! But we would have to say opening up for Ocean Colour Scene at Millennium Square in Leeds was a definite highlight. We played in front of a 8000-strong crowd in front of the City Museum, which was mind blowing!
When can fans expect to have an album from you?
We will see, we have a lot of touring to do and a few more singles to release first, we would definitely hope to release an album in the next few years! We’ve been writing a lot and we’d love for people to hear what we’ve been making.
You’ve talked about supporting Ocean Colour Scene, what was it like supporting DMA’s and The Sherlocks as well?
Supporting DMA’s and The Sherlocks was an awesome experience. We supported The Sherlocks at one of our first ever gigs, so it was great to play the legendary Brudenell Social Club and it sold out! We have supported the boys in DMA’s a few times now and the shows keep on getting bigger and bigger for them, the most recent shows at Bierkeller (Bristol) and Stylus (Leeds) were awesome and had 1000 people at each show. We had loads of fun!
If you could collaborate with any artist who would you choose?
That’s a very hard question to answer, and I think different members of the band would definitely give very different answers as we all love loads of different music. But for me I would say that I would love to do some writing with DMA’s since we are mates and I really love their music.
What do you hope to achieve in the next ten years?
I would really want to just take this band as far as possible. Still be with the rest of the lads playing to a load of different audiences all over the world and keep making the music we want to make. I know there’s loads of challenges in music but the sky is the limit after all!
