IPL 2023 Schedule

The match schedule for the IPL 2023 was released by the BCCI on Friday (February 17). The 16th edition of the tournament will get under way from 31st March 2023. The opener will have the defending champions Gujarat Titans go head on against the 4x winners Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The championship will have 10 teams like the previous season with the same format to be followed. Each side will play 14 league games, 7 at home and 7 away. The top 4 from the IPL 2023 standings will progress into the Playoffs. The dates for the Playoffs is yet to be rolled out but it is confirmed that the Final will take place on 28th May 2023 after the League stage concludes on 21st May 2023.

The IPL will witness a total of 74 matches segregated into 70 league games and 4 Playoff matches. This season, 18 double headers have been lined up with the afternoon game starting at 3:30 PM IST and the evening matches to kickstart at 7:30 PM IST.

After 2019, it’ll be for the first time that the matches will be played with 100% occupancy in the stadium and unlike the last time, fixtures will be played all across India. Punjab Kings will have Mohali as its home ground for the first five games and will then move to Dharamshala for the remaining two home matches. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals will play in Guwahati as their home ground for the side’s first tw home matches before going back to their original home in Jaipur.

IPL Start Date

The IPL 2023 will start on March 31 with the reigning champion Gujarat Titans hosting the match against Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The Hardik Pandya led Titans beat MSD’s Super Kings on both the occasions in the 2022 edition. With this epic opener, CSK would look to register their first win over GT, but will the latter let it slip away is the question.

IPL 2023 Venue

There are 12 venues for the league round of IPL 2023 with the home and away feature back into play. The IPL is returning to be played with full crowd capacity and here are the grounds that will host the matches this season:

    Just like the previous season, we’ll have 10 franchises in action for the 2023 edition of the IPL and the same format has been adopted to distribute 14 league games among these teams.

    The first group comprises Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and the Lucknow Super Giants. Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings constitute the second group.

    The IPL 2023 schedule has been planned keeping the two groups in mind. The teams in the same group will play against each other twice, while the IPL teams in opposite groups will play one match against each other.

    The BCCI is yet to release the dates for the Playoffs of the IPL 2023. Like always, four matches will be played in this round including the Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2 and Final. The top 4 teams will qualify for this stage where the top two teams of the table will battle it out in the Qualifier 1. The Eliminator will see the teams in action who finished 3rd and 4th in the league. The winner of Qualifier 1 will progress to the Final while the winner of Eliminator will meet the loser of Qualifier 1 in Qualifier 2. Lastly, the Final will be played between the winner of Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2.

    The BCCI hasn’t revealed the information regarding the Final as such except that the grandest match of the tournament will take place on 28th May 2023. We are yet to receive details about the venue for the same.
