Who is Lil Rel Howery?

Lil Rel Howery is an actor as well as a comedian. He is best known for starring in The Carmichael Show as Robert Carmichael, and in Get Out as TSA officer Rod Williams. He also created, co-produced, and starred in the TV series Rel.

Lil Rel Howery was born on December 17, 1979, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. His birth name is Milton Howery Jr. and was born to his father Milton Howery and his mother Nancy Howery. His parents raised him alongside his two siblings- younger brothers Marcus Howery and Matt Howery.

For education, Lil Rel Howery attended Providence St. Mel School from fifth grade to ninth grade and later transferred to Crane High School. As he also played basketball, he was nicknamed Lil Rel as he people reminded of his older cousin Darrel.

Lil Rel Howery married his longtime girlfriend Verina Robinson on November 29, 2008, after years of dating. With his wife, he has two children. Their older child is a daughter named Brittni Howery (born Feb 2009) and a son named Judah Howery. However, this marriage ended in divorce in 2017.

In November 2019 Howery accused his “baby mama” of living a double life. According to TMZ, his baby mama, LeChez Davis, told him he fathered their son and had divorced her husband. He also alleged that she told him the child had his last name while telling her husband the same story. The truth was unveiled after Howery posted a picture on Instagram calling the child his son (born in 2017) and was contacted to tell the real father is Davis' husband. 

A paternity test in October revealed that Lil Rel Howery is the biological father. The following month he filed for full custody and the legal authority to make all parental decisions for their son.

He is currently dating speaker and author Dannella Lane.

Early Days

Howery was 11 years old when he decided to become a comedian. Through high school, he wrote jokes and created a script for a senior talent show. Following graduation from high school, he began performing stand-up comedy on Chicago's East Side at a club called the Lion's Den. Lil Rel Howery’s TV debut was as a competitor in the reality television competition Last Comic Standing in January 2007.

This was followed by appearances in P. Diddy Presents: The Bad Boys of Comedy (2009), and In Living Color (2012). Finally, in 2014, he worked as a writer, producer, and one of the regular cast members of the comedy series Friends of the People.

Over the years Lil Rel Howery has starred in the films Tag (2018), Bird Box (2018), The Angry Birds Movie 2 (2019), Bad Trip (2020), Free Guy (2020), Fatherhood (2021), Untitled Fred Hampton project, among others.
